As a human being who does not believe in any deity, I will say that I have lived my entire life without any "guidance" from the church (or anything of that nature). I know what is right and wrong because I have emotions, and I am not a heartless killer. My family taught me the difference between right and wrong. I know good without a god. What scares me is the people who claim that they wouldn't.

I do agree with you, accidents do happen. However, the realization that teenagers try to change their own appearance to "fit in" is enough that I do not think that it should be legal, even, for teens to get plastic surgery except in cases like what you mentioned.

Our society is changing into one where people (especially girls) feel as though they have to look good in order to feel good about themselves. I don't even think that make-up should be as prominent in teenage girls' lives as it is, but that is a different topic. Girls feel as though they have to be accepted by the "popular" people, and so they change themselves to fit in. Honestly, plastic surgery should be illegal until you are 18 unless there is some kind of emergency, or something happens (such as being in a car accident and your face becoming disfigured).

Think about this, though: these students are developing themselves, as the school systems are so quick to tell us. Through uniforms, what development is being gained? Performance simply depends upon the student(s) involved. The schools that require uniforms are often top performance schools. Rest assured, students who do not wear uniforms take school very seriously, you just have to find students who care. Many students, in fact, feel that uniform is oppressive, and will do anything to avoid it.

I deeply agree that students spend a huge chunk of their time at school. We (I say we as I speak as a student) are developing ourselves, as the school system is always reminding us, so we obviously should be allowed to develop ourselves. But when, I ask, should student do this if not at school? In my own school, members of our school's symphonic band (of which I am one) can get there as early as 7:05 am, which many of us do. those staying for after school activities (which I do as well) stay at school or school-sanctioned events until 4:00 pm or later. That's around nine hours of school events per day, and that is an average day. Most of us are dress-code-abiding students, who wear nothing more revealing than jeans and a t-shirt, maybe a tank top and shorts during gym. Why, then, should those of us who wear decent clothing be forced to wear uniforms. It simply doesn't make sense.

I can say from experience that those of us who go to school to learn do not care what we wear to school. Students often do not care what they wear, and often will just wear jeans and a dress-code appropriate shirt. Many students wake up early enough as it is, and don't spend their time worrying about what to wear. Those that do will continue worrying about this throughout their life, so there is no sense in trying to stop them as the moment they leave school they will continue dressing as they please. All students may as well become accustomed to choosing their own attire while in school, rather than stifling the individuality of each student. Middle and High school is an important time in the personal development of everyone, and students should be able to express this about themselves.

I see why you would think this, and I am amazed by some of the people who have children, but it may be used as population control, and that's not right. I do think that it would be worthwhile to perhaps do evaluations, but people could lie, and corruption could take the entire thing way out of control.

Actually, I believe the tenth amendment states that we have rights not listed in the Constitution (I think it is the tenth, I may be wrong).

Actually, the USA is a secular nation. Many of the founding fathers were at very least agnostic. As well, you are either forgetting or did not know that gays are born gay, they do not choose to be gay. You said you "do not judge" gays, but when surrounded by judging words, these few words mean nothing. You are absolutely judging them. You are judging using only the bible. It is not "disrespectful" for a homosexual couple to be legally allowed to marry. It is disrespectful for them NOT to be.

It is wrong to deny rights to ANY member of society, even if you are not a part of the group yourself.
