I think johnny was justified because he said "yes i did kill him' over and over again. If he didn't kill him pony boy would be dead. They was trying to kill his friend. They beat up pony boy and tried to kill him so johnny did not want his friend to die so he took things in his own hand. Its self-defense. Bob attracted the boys that's why he had to kill bob.
