The Great Depression caused many western countries to adopt protectionism. Since Japan mainly exported luxuries such as silk, which were not required by countries affected by the depression, Japan was hit by the depression badly. Furthermore, Japan relied on other countries for necessities such as on the United States for oil. After western countries adopted protectionism, Japan lost its suppliers for these necessities. Hence Japan had to attack Manchuria to get resources that it needed.
I believe that public figures should be held accountable for their actions, even those undertaken in private. Public figures are representatives of their respective communities and role models for others to look up to and follow. Should their actions break the law or offend moral standards, they should indeed be held accountable for those actions. For example, Michael Palmer, was in charge of Punggol East SMC and was also the Speaker of Parliament. After being caught in an extra marital affair, he resigned, causing a by election. Hence public figures should be held accountable for actions undertaken in private because they are respected role models for their communities.
Although many people did die during his leadership, overall, due to a good transport system and industrialisation, Russia were able to fend off an attack from Germany. This is because the soldiers were better equipped and tanks and ammunition could be produced quickly. The transport system also managed to bring soldiers to different battle fronts quickly. Hence, many more lives were saved as Russia was able to hold up against Germany.
Through Stalin's leadership, the transport system was improved as well as the industry, where there was more coal and iron.
Agriculture also improved and grain production reached high levels, through modernisation and efficient farming methods.
Education was also provided for more people since Stalin needed people who could read instructions.
