Yes, people are responsible for their actions. Your argument is correct to some degree that we are products of our environment, but in the end it comes down to one simple thing....choice. It is an individual's choice to act on those "teachings" or not. Like the old saying: "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink". I can try to teach you how to act and think, but unless I have the correct information and understanding of what it takes to convince you, I will probably fail.
For example, I am an Atheist, but I was raised Christian. My whole family was Christian. At some point in my life I began to question what I was taught and came to a different conclusion. I did this on my own, no-one else was involved in this process.
Well... it is not much of a jump when your founder is a bandit. Muhammad told his followers that they would go to heaven (and lets not forget the virgins) if they fought and died for their cause, looting and conquering. So, it is easy to see why someone would willingly strap a bomb to themselves and give up their own life for the cause. Die killing many enemies, for an eternity of happiness and pleasure.
First, I want to say that I am a Black Belt and think everyone can benefit from some form of Martial Arts.
But, what ever happened to personal choice??? Don't I have the right to choose if I want to be fat, lazy, and incapable of defending myself? And why stop there? Lets make rock climbing, basket weaving, and stamp collecting compulsory too!
It is my life, I'll make that choice for myself.
First, everyone is responsible for their own life. If you choose to kill yourself, regardless of your motivation, that is your business.
Second, I don't even know how someone is cyber bullied. You either have to be incompetent or a glutton for punishment. With most programs there is the ability to block others from talking to you. If you don't like what someone says you don't have to talk to them. Even if it does get through, you have to make an effort to read the statements from that person. Finally, nobody is forcing you to sit in front of your computer, walk away.
No, Wikileaks is not a threat. They are but the receiver of the stolen property. The real threat are the people that steal the information. I agree a government should be transparent, however we need to protect our citizens. The first question is, how did a private have access to top secret documents? And second, if he is giving out U.S. secrets that could be used to harm our troops, he needs to be punished, and treason is punishable by death.
I think you all are missing the point.
First, the examples in the in question, I must argue with your premise. You assume that medical care, shelter, food, etc. are all rights. What do you base this off of? The Founders had it right: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Nobody can take your life that is the ultimate sin against individual freedom. Nobody can infringe on your ability to choose for yourself. The PURSUIT of happiness, not the right TO happiness. I'm sorry if you are homeless, but you have the same freedom to succeed or fail just like everyone else; true equality.
Libertarians do support business freedom but business freedom follows individual freedom. If individuals are truly free then the businesses must be free, for they are owned and run by individuals.
When property is forcibly taken from one individual and given to another, this is not freedom this is tyranny. Medicare is perfect example of this. Take the mandatory taxes from one group (i.e. the workers) and give it to another group (i.e. the non-workers and/or the poor) via medical treatment. If you want to voluntarily donate to the poor that is your choice and is part of Liberty.
But I don't want this discussion to veer into a debate over Medicare or other entitlement programs. The question directly asks "Do Libertarians emphasis business freedom or individual freedom more?". If you ask a Libertarian he will say individual freedom, if he does not, then he is not a real Libertarian.
