1. Lažne vijesti mogu dovesti do širenja pogrešnih informacija. Kako se lažne vijesti sve češće šire te lažne informacije se prihvaćaju kao istinite bez nekakve provjere. Lažne vijesti također mogu povećati veću podjelu društva.

2. Lažne vijesti mogu jako utjecati na nečije mišljenje. Kako se te lažne vijesti šire putem medija one mogu manipulirati ljudi i odlučiti to jest definirati njihove stavove. Ti stavovi se mogu odnositi na nekakva osobna, politička ili društvena mišljenja. Jedan od takvih utjecaja je npr. glasanje na izborima.
