Since this required me to pick a side, I choose Obesity. It is a lack of self-control that causes the majority of obese people to become overweight. Anorexics have an extreme amount of self-control. If you speak with someone who is dealing with it, they will often say that they feel out of control when they eat. People who overeat constantly have thrown self-control out the window.

However. If I could cure anything concerning eating disorders, it would be to eliminate our preoccupation with food in general. Either extreme is unhealthy and both are certainly "disorders", though the mental health system doesn't exactly claim obesity as a problem. That is clear from some of the responses that don't consider it to be a disorder. It is certainly not healthy eating behavior and causes just as many negative side effects as anorexia.

Both stem from self-absorbance. Embracing the ego to such extremes is a huge problem for society. WE need to love ourselves first so we can love others. This is what will make our world, "a better place".

ALSO: those shows on television that promote over-eating disgust me and are an exemplification of excess in America. My opinion: I find anorexics to be far more aggressive in their approach to food. It's harder not to eat than it is to stuff your face. Either way, they are both accomplish the same thing: self-pacification for a hurting soul.

"In the beginning".... The Christian God made his feelings about control clear when he kicked Adam and Eve out of the Garden. In my opinion, a "loving God" would not set restrictions concerning eating from a knowledge-giving tree.

The point of that restriction was to make sure that humans never ascended to the level of "gods" or became of equal wisdom. However, though there was a supposed set back at that time (if the creation story is true) we have been trying to figure things out ever since-- without the help of the miraculous fruit. It makes sense that we would hate, fight and kill each other trying to ascend to our full potential.

Human beings have far more power than most people are aware of. Our brains can out-process any super computer. We can do anything we set our minds to if only we work harder.

Maybe a loving God saw this as our chance for redemption, but I don't believe that a true loving God, who wanted us to enjoy the bounty of his creation, would restrict us from any part of it in the first place.

I clicked NO because I don't agree with the actual question, but I do agree that the Christian God is not as loving as everyone tries to promote. Our Universe is not benevolent. We get what we put in-- EVERYTHING = ENERGY.

One of our most distinct purposes in life is to ANSWER QUESTIONS. As long as we have existed, we have been striving to answer the endless, "WHY AM I HERE?". Our destiny is to discover the secrets of Earth and Space: our surroundings. Their beauty can inspire us to be greater versions of the archaic species we have devolved into.

The most ancient civilizations were far more advanced than humans today. Spirituality, Science, Art: This is the trifecta that will set our minds free. The Sumerians, Egyptians, and Vedas, etc. all knew about and studied the power the planets hold over our daily lives-- they worshiped the earth, sun, moon and stars because of our innate connection to them and the beauty that they provide.

Religion has no room for star worship. Ironically, Jesus could be considered a SUN GOD. 'Jesus' is another name for the same character that has appeared throughout numerous other religions in history. Horus was also a Sun god and of a virgin birth. Other miraculous conceptions include such figures as Krishna and Buddha. Christianity goes about like it is a unique gift to humanity, when in fact their ideas have been 'inspired' by religions that span centuries. This religion in particular has a distinct separatist mentality that disallows questions to authority and respect for other beliefs. They think they are right, all the time. Without the mental freedom to question this, followers of Christianity are indeed victims of mind control.

Religion has served its purpose. We needed it at one time to help answer our questions and allay our fears of human mortality. In turn, this became a method for mass manipulation. Our ego's create power hungry and fearful creatures: religious rules dictate how a free soul should function within it's surroundings. FEAR IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. I believe that fear of our own humanity prompts us to antagonize and manipulate each other. In a Buddhist frame, expelling the ego is the key to true human connection. SELFLESS LOVE. We all crave it but don't put the effort in to create it. Good things in life will never be handed out for free. It takes work to level up.
