Ordinary policeman (transit police for example) do not need guns. Police who are called out to deal with dangerous situations should bring a gun but police do not need to routinely carry guns. Police should definitely have access to guns but should not carry them as in the majority of situations police do not even need to pull out a taser.
Many Christians say that it is impossible for something to appear out of nothingness (the earth) and that even if the big bang created the earth, what created the big bang and what created what created the big bang? (and so on), to which I ask, what created "God"? If something can't appear out of nothingness, neither can "God". If an almighty, all-knowing god with the power to create planets, suns, light, water and animals appeared out of nothingness then it's totally pliable that a spherical stone, dirt and water mass could.
The origin of life remains very much a mystery, but biochemists have learned about how primitive nucleic acids, amino acids and other building blocks of life could have formed and organized themselves into self-replicating, self-sustaining units, laying the foundation for cellular biochemistry. Astrochemical analyses hint that quantities of these compounds might have originated in space and fallen to Earth in comets, a scenario that may solve the problem of how those constituents arose under the conditions that prevailed when our planet was young.
Creationists sometimes try to invalidate all of evolution by pointing to science's current inability to explain the origin of life. But even if life on Earth turned out to have a nonevolutionary origin (for instance, if aliens introduced the first cells billions of years ago), evolution since then would be robustly confirmed by countless microevolutionary and macroevolutionary studies.
Creation is a belief held by a religion (Christianity), which doesn't make it necessarily true. It's what your religion believes in, and is purely a belief. Whereas evolution is a fact, with primary evidence to support it. The only evidence creationists provide is the Bible, which is secondary evidence and therefore, not credible. The Bible only began to be written forty years after "Jesus" died.
FromWithin, we are talking about whether police should carry tasers rather than guns, not citizens.
Police do not routinely carry weapons in Iceland, which has on of the highest rates of gun ownership in Europe. It is easy for people to argue that this arrangement is successful because Iceland is a “small and tightly knit society.” Could it be that it is somewhat easier to be a harmonious country when the most common representatives of the country’s authority aren’t waving lethal weapons in your face?
It's amazing what you can get people to believe. Take Santa Claus for example, many children around the world believe this with their whole hearts and have debates about it at school. Because the world is so setup around Santa Claus, they have no reason to believe that he isn't real. My siblings and I used to be convinced that we heard bells at night and heard Reindeer outside, when in reality it was just our mind playing tricks on us, because we wanted to believe so badly. Same goes with the Easter Bunny and God. So many people are Christian and this makes people believe that there is no reason that he cannot be real. Many Christians accuse Athiest's of not listening to the Christian side of the story, I have, I have tried to understand but I still do not believe that he is real. It's time Christians also tried to see things from other perspectives, not just those of Athiests but of other religions too. Didn't your God tell you to be accepting of everyone?
TzarPepe, yes God does have a capital letter as it is a pronoun, that doesn't mean that it is real. Let's say I make up a person and I call him Bob. His name would have a capital letter because that is his name, not because he is supreme or the ultimate reality.
TzarPepe, what would you say if someone of a Buddhist, Islam or Hindu religion said that to you? You would say that the Christian God is the only real God. The Bible is not a creditable source as it was written years after "Jesus" was alive. Memories fade and get twisted inside our heads, our imagination goes wild and stories get twisted and changed as they get passed on. People exaggerate things. Have you ever played that game where someone whispers something to someone, and it keeps getting passed on and at the end it's completely different to what it started out as? Imagine that over a period of forty years. That's how long after Jesus' death the FIRST gospel was written. Plenty of time for that story to develop into something bigger and far from the truth.
