This is so relatable. Of course I do use social media platforms - just like you do. WhatsApp (not sure about that one at all, I mean, is this even a social media platform?) and Instagram would be great examples for that. You barely will find someone in your age who doesn't use at least one of those. I think the reason for that might be the ongoing influx of the technology because we invent new devices and social media platforms time after time. However, I am not too active at these platforms at all. I only use WhatsApp to connect with people I know, to be informed or when I'm bored, to make the time pass by faster. Instagram, well, I only use it to stalk my favorite people that I know/celebrities even though I'm still posting some pictures if I want to. I could not imagine a life without the internet at all, might be for the reason that - kind of - my whole generation grew up using it. Sounds strange... However, this could just be the bitter truth. I have to say that many young people use Instagram as a chance to get attention by posting pictures and captions that show way too much skin or they act like they were broken but I know how it feels to have a war inside your head and how it feels to be empty inside. It's such a shame... How can some people think it would be ok to crave for attention like that? It should be taken more serious and not be used for getting people to recognize you. Furthermore, you have a excellent point about the situation of communicating back then - by sending a letter - I can't remember when the last time I recieved a letter has been. Must be like 6 years.... More or less... But hey, I received a postcard earlier this year 😂🤓. As a result, as mentioned before, I'm pretty sure that I could not live without digital communication either.
