Some say "everyone has a religion (belief)" but religion does not equal belief.

Religion:a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Belief:the feeling of being certain that something exists or is true.

Not everyone should have a religion.

NO ONE SHOULD HAVE A RELIGION.

To quote Christopher Hitchens: "religion poisons everything" please think critically, rationally and independently and forget about supernatural nonsense.

Belief in god is faith based only.

The thing about faith is that it can't be disproved since the very concept verifies itself. It is very convenient when you need to believe in something that may comfort you in some way.

"HE" is jealous because he is NOT the only one. There are different men that "created" different "gods" with different laws and the jealousy of the "creators" will last until they destroy each other in the name of THEIR "god". First of all I want to acknowledge that someone said this, clearly saying that MEN CREATES GOD, I think he/she is assuming that every other god is created by men expect the on she believes in. If a god existed he would have no reason to be jealous if he is the only god, since I believe he doesn't exist it is perfectly suitable that men created god in their image. Human's are jealous therefore they created god the same way.

It is just a book. The bible was written by people. It is a book filled with contradictions, logical fallacies and claims with no proof to support them.

If you say:

The bible is God's word.

Why?

Because it is written by God.

And how do you know that?

Because the bible says so.

That is ignorant, illogical and completely unreasonable.

No, parents shouldn't hit their children under nay circumstance.

-It breaks relationships between them.

-It teaches them it's okay to hit other people, if it seems adequate.

-It makes children afraid of they people that should protect them.

-There are many other ways to discipline kids such as dialogue.

-The psychological trauma of being abused by a parent as small children is immense and it affects the victim's whole life.

people most definitely is not. As the late Christopher Hitchens once said, and I paraphrase: "to think that I couldn't differentiate right from wrong if I didn't have a controller over me, is offensive." And it is, we humans are capable of as much goodness as we are capable of evil, but we don't need religion to figure that out for us. A person can be perfectly moral without a religion.

Actually, religion affecting peopleĀ“s morality has a negative effect. It makes faith or "god" an excuse to do basically anything you want, evil or not. The bible for instance, says husbands should stone their wives if they are not virgins by the time they get married. The ten commandments say nothing about rape. Some religions allow woman to be punished by killing them, but if they are not virgins they can rape them first to then kill them. The worst part is that the people committing this atrocities think they are acting in a good and even riches fashion. All of this because of religion interfering with people's morality.

God does not exist. There is no consistent proof of his existence and of course can't me disproved (since you can't disprove a negative). By god of course I mean, any religious god or any sort of controlling intelligence. Besides many people thinking of god a different way, they are all equally wrong by assuming it's existence. People who believe in god base this belief on their faith. Faith is the very definition of believing something without evidence, something to be ashamed of. If your argument for god's existence is that there are things you can't explain/don't understand or that the bible says so, please read a logic or science text book. Something is not to be believed because it can't be disproved, because of fear, because somebody told you or because you would like it to be true.

Besides atheism being relevant in the modern world, I would like to correct some definitions, first of all, by definition atheism means "no god" or refers to a non-religious person. It DOESN'T MEAN MAGICAL THINKING or CAVEMAN THINKING, it is the exact opposite. The mere reason for atheism's existence is the need to label not being religious since religion exists (way before than atheism because of this same reason). My personal reason to be an atheist, is because of the disagreements every religion has with science, and the impossibility of their stories (the complete opposite of magic). Atheism IS relevant, because it allows people to think freely, to not fear death and to think rationally, critically and by themselves. I believe it is the only way to let go of lots of evil present in the modern day.
