i think whether a film should be animated/not animated depends on the movie its self. the themes, story, characters and genre can all come into play when deciding this. for example: disney 'live action' remakes dont work so well because the original characters are usually caricatures, and animation is a tool used to exaggerate those features. so when transfered to live-action, they can seem awkward and not have the same effect. (i like animated and non-animated movies the same. but i just have more favourite animated movies.)
