"Whether Jesus was a socialist is irrelevant, I live in this century."

So you do not support the belief that we should love our neighbors as ourselves and that theft and violence are wrong? If Jesus' teaching are wrong simply because he lived 2000 years ago, then should it apply to all his teachings, right?

Where do we draw the line? Are all beliefs that were valid 2000 years ago now invalid? Are only the beliefs from people alive now valid? Kim Jong-Il? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Britney Spears?

The point is, most social conservatives claim to be Christian. It is hypocritical to insist on one set of laws and policies because of what Jesus taught, but to deny the rest.

Having lived in the US and countries that are more "socialist" than the US, the overall/average standard of living is generally much better in "socialist" countries than the US. (Old Soviet block not withstanding) The crime rate is much lower and there is far less recidivism. The average level of education is higher and they score much higher on tests than Americans. There are far fewer homeless people. Is it because of their social system or is there something intrinsic about Americans that makes them commit more crimes and have less education?

The "socialism" that President Obama is working towards is like in a family, where everyone takes care of each other. (Also like most other western countries) Personally, I think that is a good thing.

"Jesus is a fictional character. "

Why do say that? Because the only place you have seem him referenced is a book you believe to be fictional? That's like saying the Red Baron never existed because the only place you saw him was in Peanuts.

Jesus was a liberal socialist. It is sad that the Republicans thump the Bible when it comes to things like sex education and evolution, but ignore Jesus' real teachings when it comes to important social values like loving your neighbor, feeding the hungry or "loving money". Although many "liberals" seem to be turning away from God they seem to be following his teachings much better then Republicans. Given the choice between following the teachings and nit-picking about specific passages, I am sure Jesus would want us to follow his teachings. Too bad the Republicans don't think the same way.

I, for one, like the change toward the more socialist society that Jesus preached.
