As in every "product banning" debate, the question does not revolve around the product itself, but around the people who use it.

Should we ban ALL related products? Should we ban alcohol? Harmful things will always be out there, its a fact, the problem is the way people use them, and the lack of education we get in regards to this matters. Banning things has never helped, we have banned cocaine, marijuana, crack, meth, LSD....people still use all that stuff, and pay a lot more money to do so. We should focus on educating society to have some sense of logic about the products rather than just banning everything we use, because those laws can come and go, but if the actually decide as a society not to buy-use-make something, it will just go away on its own. Banning something will just lead to a black market grouth, because with no supply, comes lots of demand.

Its a solid mixture of both theories. Its very normal that after a very unstable administration, some people will usually go towards the other side, specially liberals and young people. Obama used that "young cool rock star figure" to address young voters, people who usually did not participate in the election. On the other hand, YES he is black AND democrat, so minorities voted for him because they thought he would represent them better than an old republican white veteran. So YES it was a major influence, but I think the presidential election was fought in the democrat election, and not the Presidential election itself.

This is a topic far more complicated than gay marriage. I believe society is still trying to get along with gay marriage and gay pride as to throw gay adoption in the way. I am not against gays, but I do believe that adoption is a whole new level. Gay parents will of course condition the child even if they don't want to, not to mention the hard time the child will have in school and the moral dilemma when he sees that his classmates have moms and dads. I'm not saying this will never happen, I'm just stating that gay couples adopting is not something society can deal with right now, we must be logical when it comes to promoting such laws, a step like this one is too much too soon.
