I think that killing an animal is not murder because everyone in life kills animals, even if it's just small creatures like mosquitoes. Also, most people eat meat. Therefore, we have to kill animals. But we are not murderers. Moreover, murder is a human concept. We did not create it to be used lightly, for when we squash a bug or hit a rabbit with our car. We use it in legislation to refer to deliberate homicide because it is a loaded term for human-human killing.
