My epiphany was that the American dream is not about starting a new life or having a clean slate. But constantly learning and innovating in search of new discoveries. I feel that the rest of the world would view America more positively if instead of reciting literal tails of how you all cast off the tyranny and oppression of Europe and conquered the west but instead talk about the more symbolic gestures of leaving a place that was old and organised and set in traditions and customs for a totally new and beautiful land of plenty, where all the animals you encounter are being encountered for the first time, and all the mountains that you climb are being climbed for the first time. I believe that the American dream is all about new 'frontiers' and not just in the literal sense, in the sense of discovery. All incurable diseases are frontiers, cancer aids etc and political turmoil is a frontier. Sure nothing is completely broken, but it could be a whole of a lot better could it not?
But what if this new 'creed' just deteriorated into the same state most theisms are in now? What if the lack of belief on behalf of the atheists eventually goes against logic and reason? now, you don't have to view this in a spiritual way, maybe one day the existence of higher dimensional beings is all but proven for example, and the (now mainstream) atheists 'scoff' at it's outlandish ridiculousness. the funny thing is we will never know, which is why i just wanted to contemplate some new perspectives.
Some take action, they firebomb clinics and attack doctors. The argument shouldn't be about action, but about changing opinions. I think more liberal people tend to post these debates to try and convince people that conservatism frequently plays a major role in everyday lives, often not for the better either. But few people look at the debates with a willingness to accept the others opinions.
But in about two thousand years time, do you think it possible that students and intellectuals will be writing dissertations on how being an atheist is caused by some form of brain function? And that there is another belief that is better in line with science and logic. (Or will be after atheism has become the dominant belief similar to abrahamic religions)
I would not label the billions in military aid that they are sending to Israel as 'vital' but 'overkill.' This kind of 'support' from America is not an attempt to defend the sovereign state of Israel from another Arab-Israeli conflict or relentless Palestinian guerrilla attacks, but to create a puppet of the US in the middle east. So that they can justify an American invasion in the event of Israel being attacked and then BOOM ... Vietnam 4.0 (or Korea 5.0 depending on your chosen scoring method).
I think America should take all the aid that they are sending to Israel (more than they send to any other country in the world) and build a health care system or invest it into NASA instead of supporting a country that is hated by all of its neighbours which just destabilizes the region.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
