Why are people comparing the military current military situation to that of WW2? Nearly 3/4 of all German forces fought on the Eastern Front alone. Though Germany has a powerful military, today they are not overwhelmingly superior to any of there neighbours. Even France has an equal, if not superior military. I'm assuming neither country would have allies supporting them militarily. Russia has vast natural resources that could fuel a prolonged war against Germany, not to mention the stated manpower and logistical capability to carry out such an open war, which was part of it military doctrine since WW2. The Russian military is underestimated today due to the rough position the country found itself in the '90s and there is a misinterpreted belief that it is not as competent as it once was, with outdated equipment etc. Russia has the second or third largest military budget in the world, not to mention one of the largest, if not the largest stockpiles of artillery pieces in the world. This can be said for armoured vehicles and tanks as well. This of course is only there conventional firepower, not to mention the nukes. Russia also supplies Europe with at least 32% of its oil and 38% of its gas, which means they could weaken Germany's economy in wartime. Regarding Russia's demographic situation, the population has been on the rise since 2009...

Oh I almost forgot, Russia can just stop sending the gas and oil which account for 32 and 38% of the total European oil and gas imports...
