But, a few more comments on your other arguments before i begin mine.
The Bangbruthers were just having fun with the rap. And you see, "improper use of grammar" is kind of like the rap trend. And besides, we're not really debating on that anyway... Also, the Bangbruthers didn't think "kids" would be offensive. You're way to sensitive, dude... It's like a sign of friendship. Okay, kiddo? And, yes, we all love Mr. Robin. =D
Now, look at it this way. The SPECIFIC steps are given to "EVERYONE", yes? It essentially narrows what we can do. So, you've just confirmed for me that the WHOLE nation's PW students are DIScouraged to be "individual and creative". Thank you for that too. ;)
And yea! MATH! WOOHOO! Singapore students are very competitive and assessed through exams. Therefore, they don't want ANY mistakes. You know what that means? They keep to their current correct methods, NOT exploring other methods, because they already know they're right. So why try? That's what you're saying, right? They memorize these model answers and keep to it. They're just proving something that's already proven, over and over again- meaning, sadly, no individuality, no creativity. :(
Some of the greatest discoveries were made by MAKING mistakes. It's called trial and error. Look it up. It's suggested by the method's name- trial and E.R.R.O.R.
And this not only applies for Math.

We AGREE to a large extent. Why? There are many counters to your examples that "show that the Singapore education system is not as rigid as it seems". Take for example, Project work. We are given SPECIFIC steps for us to follow therefore, we are unable to be independent and "innovative and insightful". So, this DIScourages "creativity and individuality" in students NOT requiring us to "think out of the box".
Agreeing with chemicalclay, nowadays, we are spoon-fed with reflection exercises that you, LYQTMY, apparently did not notice that also has model answers for us to copy. Therefore, we are STILL given material to memorize and regurgitate during exams and hence, UNabling us to "think out of the box" for us to "generate new ideas to tackle the situation". HAHA!
