Our parents will not like it when they have to pay an extra fee to help the academy change their name. This school is perfect the way it is and doesn't need a name change. Its name was fine before and "The Academy" has quite a remarkable reputation. If we change our name, that reputation of ours will diminish.

We discussed this issue in my class. Our teacher says that if we change our name, we will need a new logo and everything else that has to do with the name. This will cost tens of thousands of dollars. Think of what this school can do with that much money. We can use it to get new equipment for media tech students, buy medical tools and fund HOSA for the medical students, provide art gear and materials for the visual arts and hospitality/culinary students, help fund for laptops, etc... See all the wonderful things we can do with all that extra money?

Instead of renaming our whole school, we can name our new auditorium after Mr. Jack Singley. That way, both sides win; our longtime school board member is recognized for his hard work and The Academy gets to keep its name.

We aren't robots. We have opinions on what happens to our school and should be notified if there are going to be changes on our campus. No one objected to the idea of renaming our school because the supposed "meeting" wasn't announced clearly. If a decision this important was to be made, there would have been flyers that told everyone to come and the students would have been informed, but not a single one of us knew that there was such a meeting. That was why the suggestion of changing our school name was so easily passed.

I know I'm just rambling on and on about this, but I really don't want this school's name to be changed. If you happened to read this far down, thanks for taking your time to hear this student's opinions.
