New Nuclear Power Plants in the U.S.A?

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration's planned loan guarantee to build the first nuclear power plant in the U.S in almost three decades is part of a broad shift in energy strategy to lessen dependence on foreign oil and reduce the use of other fossil fuels blamed for global warming.
Obama's budget for the coming year would add $36 billion in new federal loan guarantees on top of $18.5 billion already budgeted — but not spent — for a total of $54.5 billion. That's enough to help build six or seven new nuclear plants, which can cost $8 billion to $10 billion each.

Definitely time for a new switch in energy policy. Nuclear energy would solve so many of our problems: cheap energy, clean energy, new technology. But there is still the radioactive waste left over. However, that waste still has huge quantities of fissionable material. That material is being wasted right now. I know that there are ways to recycle that waste in order to get more of the material out of it. I recently saw a program on my news station about the Lawrence Livermore lab researching ways to reuse that material. France currently powers 70% of it's country with nuclear energy. Since they can do it, why can't we? Especially when we can reuse that waste. Side: Its about time
