Recycling

I believe that we should recycle because we are running out of recourses which helps us sustain our planet. By not recycling it causes landfill which we will eventually run out of.

Sorry, I meant to add a description but I hit Enter.

What are some ways we can encourage recycling?

What are the most effective ways in reducing waste?

I would tend to be more in favor of reusing/repurposing things where possible rather than recycling.

Recycling plastic is generally a huge waste; it's nearly as resource intensive as producing new plastic, messier, and the resultant plastic is limited in its usage. There are exceptions for certain types of plastic, but generally speaking plastic recycling is a net loss- the biggest benefit is keeping the stuff out of landfills for another iteration or two.

Recycling paper is a gray area; it's true that using recycled paper reduces the amount of wood needed to produce new paper, but it's also true that the chemical processes involved in recycling paper are very rough on the environment, even when compared to harvesting trees in the first place- particularly since most tree harvesting in the first world carries regulations requiring replanting and the like. There is also the landfill space argument here, but most paper is biodegradable (if slowly)- and the paper that is not biodegradable tends to also not be recyclable, with a few exceptions.

Metal, on the other hand, should almost always be recycled. It can almost always be melted down and reused in a process that is cheaper and easier on the environment than smelting newly-mined ores, with an end product that is essentially identical. It is a huge waste for metal to end up in a landfill.

Glass is similar to metal in that it is easy to recycle- but in the case of glass, it is still somewhat cheaper to produce new glass, particularly when a specific type of glass is needed. The raw materials for most glass are not in short supply by any stretch either. Another one where the main benefit is to keep it out of a landfill.

I am in favour of recycling because it is beneficial for the environment.

I am in favour of recycling as it helps the environment. We should encourage recycling as it will be beneficial for now and also for the future.

i think you should recycle because it helps the enviroment and the landfills wont over fill and hurt the planet.

we need to recycle to save the environment and for the trees to grow back. People who are not recycling much need to start recycling more than they are doing at the moment. people who are recycling are making a massive effort to change the way we dispose of are waste. but alot still needs to be done to change the opinion of the rest of the population who are still ignoring this issue.

i think that we should recycle because it helps our environment to stay clean.

recycling the correct rubbish into the correct bins helps to keep rubbish off of the streets.

just think people who have children that are old enough to play out on the streets wouldn't like their children to come home crying saying that they have cut there finger on glass or an empty can.... just think what if that was you who had children coming in crying and screaming and saying that they have cut their finger or picked up something they shouldn't how would that make you feel???

this is why i think that people should recycle.

We should recycle will save the planet and the environment less trees will be cut down for

paper

i think you all should recycle, so you can be perfect. it is very helpful to the environment and it doesnt cost alot off money. its takes alot off messing about but it is worth it so we can save this beautiful world.

i think recycling is important as it helps the environment to keep clean . also by us recycling our rubbish it helps the streets and commmuinty we live in clean and reduces the ammount of rubbish decreases as it helps the planet and commuinty we live in look and be cleaner and safer for us to live in as you wouldnt want your child to be playing on a dirty street that is full of rubbish also by people not knowing what to recycle and they put it on the streets or in bushes as they havent put it or taken it home to be placed in to the corrrect bin so it can be recycled corerectly and safely . also would you want youre child to get hurt on glass or something that could harm them people not recycling and leaving rubbish around this causes our children to not be able to play out just have a think you wouldnt want your child to be hirt on smashed glass or a can ?

i think everyone should recycle! because this is a free country and we as people should be saving our planet and the enviroment! recycling helps in a lot of ways and starting to chuck your tins in the correct bin. it will save a lot of trees in the world.

I believe recycling is very important, the percentage of waste recycled, in the UK, is increasing, which is great, but i feel it still need to be promoted. Therefore i think that recycling should be studied in schools more so the future generation will be more aware of the issue. This will increase the chance of them recycling at home and in the future. The younger generation are the future, in order for recycling not to be an issue we need them to help, we need them to feel passionate about the subject, we need them to recycle!

I am in favour of recycling. I believe that recycling is a responsible thing to do as it helps to preserve the natural environment. Materials that are not recycled are sent to landfill or incinerators. Landfill takes up huge amounts of land and causes pollution. Incinerators release gas emissions into the Earth’s atmosphere which causes acid rain. The amount of rubbish being sent to incinerators and landfill needs to be reduced to make our Earth a cleaner place. By recycling, huge amounts of energy is saved. Also, recycling reduces the need for raw materials so the natural environment is preserved and animal’s habitats are not destroyed. Overall, I think that recycling is a very important thing to do and I think that everyone should get involved in recycling to help our Earth.

Recycling is a process to change waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from land-filling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to plastic production. Recyclable materials include many kinds of glass, paper, metal, plastic, textiles, and electronics. Materials to be recycled are either brought to a collection centre or picked up from the curb side, then sorted, cleaned, and reprocessed into new materials bound for manufacturing. In the strictest sense, recycling of a material would produce a fresh supply of the same material—for example, used office paper would be converted into new office paper, or used foamed polystyrene into new polystyrene. However, this is often difficult or too expensive (compared with producing the same product from raw materials or other sources), so "recycling" of many products or materials involves their reuse in producing different materials (e.g., paperboard) instead.
