I think of life simply as a contest of which species can survive better. Cutting down trees can make more room for us humans, who are over populating. Well, people say: "what about the animals?" If monkeys where in our position right know, I bet they wouldn't give a crap about us. Side: For

It's just like the old expression they "can't see the forest because of the trees". Cutting the trees down will greatly improve field of vision for looking at the forest. I think mankind needs to focus more on creating man-made architecture, rather than letting loose vain natural inhabitants. Away with the old. If mankind wants to sustain the existence of plants and trees, they ought to create structured gardens, farms and greenhouses, not maintain useless and uncontrolled forests and excess country lands. That's not true. Forests absorb a lot of water to prevent flooding and mudslides and often contain medicine waiting to be discovered. For example, the discovery of the periwinkle in Madagascar allowed us to treat child Leukemia which before was almost certain death. Side: Against

There are now other ways to handle flooding. Side: For

I am disappointed having read the fatuous statements so far. The reason why the Amazon Rainforest is cut down so rapidly is largely to create farms for soy, wheat, and corn, almost all of which is fed to livestock. When you think about it, it's a tremendous waste to feed this food to livestock when we could be feeding it to humans. If people in the Western World went vegan unnecessary deforestation wouldn't happen nearly as much. Also keep in mind that biodiversity is crucial in order to keep the food web stable, and when we raze a forest to farm, it is unlikely it will grow back any time soon. Side: Against

I don't think that rain forests should be cut down for the following reasons: 1) The trees in the rain forests go through photosynthesis, and photosynthesis is what humans use to breathe, if there aren't enough trees, then oxygen will be scarce and it can cause suffocation. 2) The trees also make sure that the soil under it doesn't slip and cause landslides, when you cut the trees above and build houses on it, there are no longer roots there to secure the mud under it. 3) The rain forest is a important part of the ecosystem and it helps many of the animals and plants survive. Humans are also in the food chain, so if the animals slowly die out, then humans will soon be effected too. Side: Against
