Could America's participation in the Olympics up our "street cred"?

Can Michael Phelps save this country?

Could the USA's participation in the Olympics give us a higher standing in the eyes of other countries with all the medals that we have been winning this year?

Just as sadly there are people who look at the Olympics as a powerful instrument in deciding who can kick better butt around the world! I don't believe in "street cred" but there are many that do. Michael Phelps is doing a super-power job in the pool at the minute and if that calms or riles people I would think it unenlightened either way. We can surely be very proud of his and everyone's accomplishments in these Olympic games but "street cred?" Only if it floats your arrogant little boat...which it will, for some.

I wish it were that simple. But the world's perception of the USA is based upon factors far more important than talent, strength, and endurance. This is not necessarily a bad thing, however. We want them to judge our country based upon things that really matter like human rights.

Sadly I don't think so. We ahve enemies that will never like us like Iran and it would tkae something big for the mto wnat to think to change their mind. It may make some pople like us more but never the whole country.
