Well I am not concerned at all on whether or not it serves a purpose, but I do support it for my differential reasoning being that it doesn't harm anyone. I feel the exact same way on homosexual marriage. Though I don't see the point of this debate, I don't think there is hardly anyone whom of which is against heterosexual marriage. If we allow straight people to get married, then next we will have to allow pedophilia and bestiality. God clearly doesn't like straight people because he game them syphilis, gonorrhea, HPV, chlamydia, herpes, hepatitis, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, chancroid, LGV, molluscum contagiosum, MPC, PID, crabs, and scabies. How much more clear does he have to make it. Straight marriage is an abomination and if we allow it we will face his wrath. Plus it's just plain icky. I don't want my kids to see two straight people kissing in public. Think of the poor children whose fragile minds will be scarred for life if they see something like that ;) Side: No, make it illegal/gay-only

The government should not be concerned with this issue. A marriage license serves no real purpose. In fact it may be hurting us. We don't go through the process of creating paperwork that would help sort things out in emergencies/death. A marriage license covers too many things, provides information that is needed for everyone, and is complicated to get. Shouldn't everyone have someone who can act as a medical proxy for them? Shouldn't everyone have someone designated as the beneficiary of their estate? All the things that are by default assigned to the spouse should be documented specifically, and causes people to be complacent when it comes to stuff like wills. Side: No, make it illegal/gay-only

As someone whom seems knowledgeable on this, out of curiosity I am wondering do you happen to know why marriage license is necessary for? I'm figuring this to be obvious that this marriage license is needed in order to be able to wed two people together. Side: No, make it illegal/gay-only
We have to go to the license office and fill out the form (go over it to make sure it is accurate). They check to make sure all of your supporting documentation is accurate. Then they give you the "license". Once you get married the government empowered officiant signs the paperwork and it gets sent in. Then you go in and get your certificate once it has been processed. Going through that whole process registers you with the government as a married couple. I don't know all of the benefits of being married, but here are some that I know: able to file joint taxes, spouse is beneficiary in case of death, spouse has privileges in hospital visiting/proxy, and spouse can choose not to testify against the other in court. One of the other benefits is that the assets get merged, but that doesn't really count because we started giving those rights away to non married couples. Side: Yes, it serves a purpose

I don't really support marriage as a government institution whatsoever. If two people want to gather with a bunch of other people in a building that has some religious significance to them, preform some abstract ceremony, and start referring to themselves as a "married" couple, that's fine. But it's not something the government needs to get involved in. We don't need a federal stamp of approval on a bullshit love contract we're forced to sign for marriage.
