Given the ever expanding medical technology, are humans supposed to live forever?

Medical advances in medications, transplantations, prostheses, nano surgeries, etc, are allowing humans to live longer. At least one researcher in the area of gerontology at MIT supports the notion that with these advances, humans could live forever.

Humans are far from living forever even given the ever expanding medical technology. How is an average life span of 77 years even close to forever?

Side: no

I'm not sure what you mean by this question. But no, living forever would be a horrible torture. As you have probably noticed, the older you are, the faster you perceive time to be flowing. Human psychology is not prepared for lasting 1000s of years, let alone forever.

Also, we'd have to stop having children.

So no, I think the point of medicine is to increase the quality of life, not the quantity.

Side: no

There may be a day that medical science will have the knowledge to make sure that humans live forever.
