Romans copied a lot of Greek culture, that's true- but I believe this is looking at sociopolitical structure more than anything else, which is more comparable to our own than Roman culture was. Romans did in fact copy Greek culture to an extent. But the ideas on a Republic was copied from the Romans as the Romans were pretty much the first to introduce it... and destroy it.
