Yes the USA is a great country because of how much money it gives to its poor people.

It also exploits the 3rd world.

The United States is the best country in the world. It is also the most beautiful country in the world.

It's barely a great superpower, compared to superpowers of the past it sucks completly. American history is mostly made up, American culture consists whatever pukes out of their televisions, the same applies for their language. They brainwash their generations with garbage about being a country of freedom. They carry guns, they pretend to be better than countries in Europe and to top it all off they don't even have an empire.

It's barely a great superpower

What, pray tell, constitutes a great superpower? I suppose having the world's strongest economy (until very recently), the world's strongest military, some of the world's most brilliant minds, an unthinkable amount of natural resources and a rich culture that is an amalgamation of dozens of European cultures doesn't suffice? Plus, when you take into account its youth, the USA could be called a wunderkind of sorts.

American history is mostly made up

This is just plain garbage, coming from the most bitter, resentful, anti-America, pro-Britain debater on this site. America history is rich and fairly modern, making tracking of the history quite simple. Its records are neatly kept, and if you had the slightest idea what you were talking about, you might realize that.

American culture consists whatever pukes out of their televisions

I suppose you want to act all high and mighty when the likes of Fry and Laurie and Monty Python are rerun on your networks day after day? American culture is rich and complex, ranging from the educational capital of the Northeast, to the endless icons of Americana in the Midwest, to the world's foremost film industry in the far West. Personally, I believe television in general is nothing more than useless drivel, but to demerit American culture to "puke" coming out of televisions? That's ignorant, plain and simple.

the same applies for their language

I'm sorry, but if I'm not mistaken, we speak a language called English, which, again, correct me if I'm wrong, comes from your beloved homeland of ENGLAND. Yes, we've taken certain liberties with the language, but referring to it as "puke" (seems to be your favorite word) is as much of a slam against the UK as the US.

They brainwash their generations with garbage about being a country of freedom.

America is an incredibly free country, and if you don't realize that, I simply feel sorry for you. Besides, the thought that we're the only nation to "brainwash" our youth with thoughts of freedom is absurd. Britain is equally as guilty, my friend.

They carry guns

I agree the gun laws in the US are out of sorts, but this is such a poor argument against the US!

They pretend to be better than countries in Europe

While some Americans may act this way, the majority of us don't. And those who do are very nearly justified to do so; national pride stretches back thousands of years! Every country thinks they're better than all the others.

and to top it all off they don't even have an empire.

Oh, God forbid we don't have an empire! Let me apologize in place of my country, shall I? I'm terribly sorry that we haven't taken over every square inch of land we see, greedily decimating other cultures to make way for our grand empire. I'm sorry that we haven't been a cruel master to our very own colonies, becoming the estranged mother to our helpless children. The fact that we don't have an empire only goes to show that we understand our limits, and we aren't trying to impose any more than we already do on other countries! I couldn't say the same for the UK.

For all these reasons, I would say that the USA is indeed a great country.

"What, pray tell, constitutes a great superpower? "

I do not deny that the USA was a superpower at one point, but compared to the superpowers of the past it is hardly great.

"I suppose having the world's strongest economy (until very recently), the world's strongest military,"

This was acheived by merely waiting for the European Empires to ruin each other in two World Wars.

"some of the world's most brilliant minds"

What constitutes a "brilliant mind" is merely a matter of opinion, every country in Europe has had it's fair share of "brilliant minds".

"an unthinkable amount of natural resources"

IF you measure a country's greatness by it's natural resources then several countries in Africa chock full of minerals have beaten USA hands down.

"This is just plain garbage, coming from the most bitter, resentful, anti-America, pro-Britain debater on this site. America history is rich and fairly modern, making tracking of the history quite simple. Its records are neatly kept, and if you had the slightest idea what you were talking about, you might realize that."

Were you taught in school the tale of Paul Revere? What about the reasons America revolted against Britain?

"I suppose you want to act all high and mighty when the likes of Fry and Laurie and Monty Python are rerun on your networks day after day?"

Name any of the "networks" which apparently show these reruns and then i might take your point into consideration.

"American culture is rich and complex, ranging from the educational capital of the Northeast, to the endless icons of Americana in the Midwest, to the world's foremost film industry in the far West."

Well, I'm sorry if I offended you, but I find that to get a reply to arguments nowadays I have to be a tad offensive.

"I'm sorry, but if I'm not mistaken, we speak a language called English, which, again, correct me if I'm wrong, comes from your beloved homeland of ENGLAND."

You know full well that American English has several terms different from real English, even now England itself is being flooded with words such as "douchebag" created with no other intention than to make individuals feel like they own the lanuage of a country they revolted against centuries ago. Straight after the revolution the Americans still spoke proper English but in the modern day it has slowly been filled with the trash that gangsters speak.

"Yes, we've taken certain liberties with the language, but referring to it as "puke" (seems to be your favorite word) is as much of a slam against the UK as the US."

Considering how I only used the word once I don't see how you can come to the conclusion that it is my "favourite word".

"America is an incredibly free country, and if you don't realize that, I simply feel sorry for you."

The whole "puritans came to America to flee persecution in Britain" junk, is simply made up to give the impression that they were being oppressed.

"the thought that we're the only nation to "brainwash" our youth with thoughts of freedom is absurd. Britain is equally as guilty, my friend."

While I'm aware that the history curriculum leaves out crucial parts that Breitish children need to know, I'ld like to see you give an example of brainwashing in Britain.

"I agree the gun laws in the US are out of sorts, but this is such a poor argument against the US!"

I know, I do not wish to debate the ethics of carrying guns, but as I said earlier to get I reply I often have to speak out of turn.

"While some Americans may act this way, the majority of us don't. And those who do are very nearly justified to do so; national pride stretches back thousands of years! Every country thinks they're better than all the others."

Apart from America hasn't existed for "thousands of years" they're a new country and some of their citizens consider themselves equal to nations in Europe, which I find rather ridiculous.

"Oh, God forbid we don't have an empire! Let me apologize in place of my country, shall I? I'm terribly sorry that we haven't taken over every square inch of land we see, greedily decimating other cultures to make way for our grand empire."

But you've tried, remember Vietnam? USA tried to control it just so it didn't fall to communism and thus ended up with an evil dictator in South Korea.

" I'm sorry that we haven't been a cruel master to our very own colonies, becoming the estranged mother to our helpless children."

You clearly haven't read about how Hawaii came into the US, the US Government annexed it in a new bill and ignored the complaints of it's monarchy.

"The fact that we don't have an empire only goes to show that we understand our limits, and we aren't trying to impose any more than we already do on other countries!"

But you do impose yourselves in other countries, mainly ones rich in oil. The only difference between America's involvement in other countries and that of the Bitish Empire's is that the British Empire painted the country red on world maps afterwards.

If you define "crap" as "great" then yes, USA is great.

But seriously, that country sucks on so many levels (movie industry is pretty much the only okay thing). The main one I worry about is their ridiculous educational system. I mean, they teach, in college, stuff that should be taught in 8th, 9th, 10th grade... http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/591143/estonia-as-a-country-of-fewest-number-of-religious (It's in the second half of that post there.)

Fix that and most other issues fix themselves, over time.
