Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Side: Yes, we are given the right.
In a country with constitutionally protected freedom of speech you not only have the right to bash your own government but it is am implied obligation of citizenship, meaning it is hoped that everyone's combined bashing will whip that service into the best possible shape to fit that society. So yes, in the USA, deliberately bashing your government is pretty much a good thing. Side: Yes, we are given the right.

It seems when people protest peacefully, at least about the slaughter of their friends and family by those who are entrusted with our security, they get some pretty violent and insulting backlash! Or when a counter protest against "un-American activities" that tend to undermine the country, it's the pro-American protesters that get hammered by the right! We should expect that, I suppose, since Fascism is a right wing ideal. The Breitbart boys seem to be okay no matter what they do, but, protest against them, you answer to the Brown Shirts of the present. Yes, we have freedom of speech. It's supposed to be used respectably. Side: Rights have their limits.
