yes because most people end up throwing it away where it doesn't decompose for many many years! It's bad for the Earth and we are already messing up our Earth enough. Why not just give it a little respect? Most plastic bags end up in the sea or in forests killing many important figures in the food chain. SAVE OUR EARTH! Side: Yes
Plastic bags given free with your shopping is encouraging people to waste. Especially in supermarkets- why can't people bring their own bags? I agree with the use of paper bags, or tough plastic bags that you can get in bookshops or clothes stores- because paper can be recycled and tough plastic bags can be re-used. What is the point in these flimsy supermarket bags that barely survive the walk home? I never use them, for convenience, but why do people need them? Maybe as a last resort- i.e. you've forgotton your bags, but I've never really seen the point in polythene supermarket bags. Side: Yes

Of course plastic bags should be banned. They aren't free. They cost a lot and there are too many polluting the world. Communities don't have much of a choice if they leave things as they are: They either drown in plastic bags or spend millions of dollars to clean up the mess—tax dollars that should go toward infrastructure, education and libraries. San Jose, Calif., reports that it costs about $1 million a year to repair recycling equipment jammed with plastic bags San Francisco estimates that to clean up, recycle and landfill plastic bags costs as much as 17 cents a bag, or approximately $8.5 million a year. I like your statement here because I have seen at multiple people house or at least where I live, people just throw them away. I believe a great alternative to this would be to just create a bring your own bag policy (BYOB) this would be a simple fix and people wont be completely killed by the change. Side: Yes

TELL THAT TO THE SPERM WHALE! Last year, a sperm whale was found dead with over 100 plastic bags in its stomach! I like animals! The waste from plastic is killing our nature! If you think that these animals deserve to die, you go try choking on a plastic bag, animal haters! Side: Yes
Each community makes their own determination. Here in the Boston area there are some towns/burbs that have banned them and others that didn't. And I shop in both. And I can tell you that as soon as you get used to the habit of bringing your own bags it isn't a burden at all, and in fact we'll find a half dozen different ways in a day to reuse bags in different ways. I keep a bag of bags in my car, and I've got a couple in my work shoulder bag. And now I never have to worry about torn bags and spilled goods because what I have is totally reliable. Side: Yes

Why should they be banned? While I can agree with the sentiment that plastic is terrible for the environment, they CAN be recycled, and they are more useful then paper bags. Also, more and more stores have been adopting eco-friendly plastic bags as of recently. At least, I've seen them doing this. Side: No
