While many people believe they know exactly what a bogan is and what their characteristics might be, in reality there is no defined set of characteristics of a bogan: people using the term merely use it to describe those imagined to be different to, and less cultured than, the speaker. Which could lead to a situation where a "cashed-up bogan" calls the speaker a bogan. ;)

Let’s get this straight, Bogans are Australia wide they are in every nook and cranny, and we love them because we can take the piss. Sure the women Bogan has 6 kids to 6 different fathers, loves her alcohol and ciggies, has a different fashion sense, swears like a trooper, and is a general embarrassment at the supermarket but at least we can look on and have bit of a laugh. As for the bloke well he loves his VB, cigarettes, flannie, mullet, beanie, Holden or ford top, Holden or ford car, has an excellent grasp on the English vocabulary, and has possible missing teeth, but who is going to look at him sideways when he's at the pub or he wants that car spot you want?

They are a national treasure and we should be proud, for our taxes pay for their everything.

Bogans are essential and unavoidable, get used to it!

the word 'bogan' is a derogatory term used to put down people who are unsophisticated or unfashionable (dictionary definition). Why should we not be proud of people in the working class??

I also have been researching bogans and really there just working class people. They are aspirational people who value mate ship and friendship. They may have a slightly extreme fashion sense but we don't have any right to judge them for it. According to Jill Singer from the Herald Sun, 'bogan’s can be yobbo’s, but yobbo’s aren’t necessarily bogans.'
