What are the differences between men and women?

Based on personal wisdom, history, or scientific data, what character traits do each have that differ from the other and most importantly, what roles should they each have in society.

Bonus points to those who can explain the should-be roles of males and females in a relationship.

To quote Kindergarten Cop: "Boys have a penis and girls have a vagina!"

But I'm sure the CD community understands the physiological differences between men and women. Psychologically, I think women are more apt to show their emotions and are more dramatic with emotions than men. I think men feel this need to flaunt their power, just like in the animal kingdom, by buying nice cars and houses. But there are so many differences, it's tough to put all of them in an argument. Besides, I'm not a psychologist, so I can't say I'm any expert on any of this.

What I do know is that the main differences between men and women, both physiologically and psychologically, are caused mainly by the types and levels of hormones in each gender. If a man had higher levels of estrogen, he would start to act more feminine and might not grow hair like a man, but more like a woman.

Women should do the dishes and clean the clothes and men should just look macho!

Just kidding everyone. Based upon the timing of this argument you should quickly assume that I, Lost at Sea, am currently lost in a grog of a delicious beverage, but I digress.

In all sincerity, I believe that women and men should be treated as equals in the area of intellect. As in matters of physicality, we must assume and understand that the male species of humans have almost always been stronger.

As of now, women will continue to play a major roll in the emotional state of human society. The men continue to play the cards, but this will change as technology advances. The key is the break of procreation and its meanings....

I look to a future of equality, but this will only occur when we take away sexuality and sexual consequence. What I mean from this is that women bear children and men supply the seed. I do see a future where men and women no longer perform procreation in a means to create children, but for pleasure. (artificial insemination will become the norm in the next 100 years)

I have no clue what I'm getting at...I hope you do.

Basic character trait differences from men and women (that I can come up with right now) is how the hormones affect us each differently. Both sexes have the handful of the same hormones going through us, just in different levels, and at different times of days and months (PMS comes to mind). Women produce more progesterone after puberty because it is produced in the ovaries; it makes women "emotional/moody/whatever" usually up to 2 weeks before menses. Studies show the high progesterone levels in men is what actually causes aggression in men. Low levels of it would make a man... more, "soft" or paternal, as the study put it. Testosterone in men, and estrogen in women, leads to the need for "power."

So, there. High levels of progesterone in men will cause aggression and less sensitivity towards,... anything... and high levels of it in women causes the opposite.
