My point exactly! Why in the world is there still religion? It calls people to give up there lives and go against what is natural just so they can have a hope of going to this "heaven." I mean, since evolution is a scientific fact, and its based on the idea of survival of the fittest and the idea of passing your genes down, how could it have lasted this long in the history of this earth? It makes no logical sense... Since, Christianity tells people to "take up your cross and follow [Christ]" does that not imply that they are giving up their lives just for a belief? Along with this they are told NOT to have sex until marriage but that they shouldn't get married! This belief is said to have no proof.... why would people follow it? Why don't people just realize that sex is the psychological factor for evolution and that people should just be free to have sex with whomever they please? Then we might be able to observe the first evidence of macro-evolution! Then those Christians will be proven wrong for sure!

Well its not like people who adhere to a particular religion view it as an option. People genuinely believe their respective religions are true. Its not really a matter of 'needing' them or not.

religion is, lemme see, like a way of life. some people dont like the way that others lived their lives(way back when the U.S began to form, actually before that, somewhere around there :) ), so they began their own beliefs which, after a while becomes religion. we need religion to let people lives their lives how they want by choosing the religion they agree with best or most. think of it as how americans broke from great britain.. they all had different beliefs on how to live, so they separated into different lands.

well in my eyes any organized religion does more bad for the world than good. the problems that arise from religion outweigh the benefits. I do believe however that religions have a good message, and when less organized can be good for people. So all in all religion can be good; were just doing it all wrong. Religions as we know them are like business's or gangs. They should be sets of beliefs unique to each individual that are not enforced as informal laws.

In most cases, the point is merely to control you. We don't need them, but we are conditioned to believe so at a very young age.

Religion is necessary when it motivates people to do good toward others.
