Of course what people identify as will go too far.

Once one immutable characteristic is open to designation by personal fiat, they all are.

There are hordes of people who will use it to game the system and garner unfair advantage.

Men facing prison time might identify as women so they can serve their sentences in less violent prisons, or so they can be locked up with a large supply of female sex partners.

What about identifying as whatever age you want? That would make a bigger difference than merely where you piss and crap.

- Age affects the rates car insurance companies charge (as does gender), so 20-year-old men would identify as 56-year-old women to get cheaper rates.

- Hordes of 15-year-olds would identify as 21 so they could buy beer.

- You know damned well that a lot of 30-year olds would identify as 76 so they could start receiving their Social Security, and get the senior citizen specials at Denny's.

White kids would identify as Black or Native American so they could take advantage of Affirmative Action programs, or qualify for particular college scholarships.

Whole high school football teams would identify as lesbians so they can shower with the cheerleaders.

The possibilities for abuse are ENDLESS.

As much to the point, there are tons of folks with senses of humor combined with ornery streaks.

Folks would not leave it at just picking a gender or some made up pronoun like ze/zim.

Making up their own pronouns would be next.

What if people want their pronoun to be that sexy thing or master or even massuh/massuh's?

Instead of "He is in a meeting" people would have to say, "That sexy thing is in a meeting."

When talking about Chuck Schumer, Senator Tim Scott might find himself having to say ''Massuh is giving a press conference about extreme vetting being bad. Massuh's fake tears are rolling down his cheeks," all because Schumer chose to change his pronouns from he to Massuh, and from his to Massuh's.

This puts me on the fence on the issue.

While I think it is foolish to divorce identity from reality in order to allow people pick their genders or pronouns, it sure would be funny!

I think its OK to identify yourself as either gender , however i think it could go to far .For example people who say they have no gender , you surly have to identify as a gender if your filling in paper work and you put neither how are people meant to know what you look like and if your on the run and change genders you can say that's not me . There are so many problems involved with this. One day people with want to identify them self as a cat or a toaster or a plant pot where is the end to it .

I am fine with people dressing however they want, having sex with whatever consenting adults they want, etc.. It is none of my business.

HOWEVER, at such point as people start pretending their biology is optional, and insisting that OTHER people have to play along with their fantasies, it has already gone too far.

Once people get in the habit of ignoring basic realities in an effort to be polite, large numbers of people have a predictable tendency to use that to gain unfair advantages.

Ask the MMA women who have fought Fallon Fox, or any of the women who have to compete against transsexual men in Olympic competitions. Identifying as women does not change all the advantage of the muscle mass developed by going through puberty and adolescence as a male.

When people talk about gender identity they usually mean "masculinity/femininity": the sociocultural aspects of biological sex rather than biological sex itself. However, they (possibly on purpose) confuse the listener by saying they are male or female rather than saying that they exemplify some qualities of that gender. If someone calls themselves the opposite sex in terms of "I am a male" it's an incorrect statement whereas if they say "I am male" meaning in terms of gender characteristics it can be correct. If these people simply used the already separate terms "masculine/feminine" rather than seizing on the biological terms male/female there would be no issue. I feel that such people want a label, possibly in order to partake in identity politics or to feel unique.

People identifying with fetishes is nothing new. It has been going on for thousands of years.

There are people running around claiming to be cats already!
