Zero tolerance policies in school

Any student that is found with any type of item that can be used as a weapon should be suspended immediately pending further investigation.

Parents need to accept that society is never going to be a perfectly safe play pen for their kids.

Pencils - but, still the right idea. How about forks to eat? Are they allowed to bring shoes? They could throw a shoe at somebody and hurt them.

Obvious weapons are one thing, but ANYTHING that can be used as a weapon gets hairy. Where is the line drawn? I can understand pocket knives, but then there are scissors. Will all students be required to have "safety scissors" in their pencil case rather than real scissors? Maybe scissors aren't even allowed to be carried by students anymore...
