Of course. It's known by two terms: "Zero Tolerance" and 'Political Correctness'.

Side: yes they do go overboard

some teachers think they are special and think they can get away with getting kids in trouble for the tiniest infractions like a kid wearing a hat in school

I do believe that some teachers go overboard with the rules and abuse their power. I feel that some teachers do this on purpose just because they don't like you. For example some teachers you may find will be sexist, and say they favor girls more than guys. They may go overboard with the rules against the guys.

Last year if you got two tardies, you had to go see the justice of the peace and you would receive a $150.00 ticket. I know this because i had to go up there 3 times. The third time i got the fine plus 22 hours of community service. It was because our principle was an off duty police officer. He was removed by the state board of education. His teaching license was revoked because of ways he handled discipline. His name is Dr. Seabolt aka Dr Ocean screw or Dr Seabiscut

Isn't that a little innapropriate to be posting names? Any who, that one teacher is not representative of all teachers just as Hitler is not representative of all Christians.

That may be true, but the question is SOME, not majority, not all, but some.

No. His license was revoked in texas, not in all states. I don't want any students going through what he put our school through. He manhandled students, cussed parents, disrespected the staff. One day he grabbed a girl by the back of her shirt and yanked her down the hallway, she broke his nose. She told him not to touch her. He also broke kathrine's nose slamming her face on the desk while trying to 'arrest' her. He called my father an SOB for taking up for me. Seriously he has it coming. Karma's a bitch.

Schools are not police, legislatures, or judges. Yet most operate as a micro-government, and are often authoritarian and disrespectful of basic human rights; they usually try to support their actions by fear mongering and inadequate reasoning.

lately our school has been cracking down on girls who's shorts they say are too short and we now are not allowed any eletronics in school if they see them it's a automatic dentition and your eletronic devices are taken for two weeks that is going way overboard

If they are heavily enforcing rules they are really just showing how much they care about your education. They aren't getting off on it ( I'd hope ), they just want to do their job the best way that they can. To teach you.

That's not what happened when I swore in class one day. My teacher said that if he ever heard me swear again, anywhere, he's going to make my life in school a living hell. This is just because he doesn't like me, maybe because I'm popular or maybe because I'm smart at math too. But he doesn't say anything if my friend swears, why is this? And we get the same mark and hang with the same people.

Haha. i got 40 hrs of community service and a $250 fine for cursing a teacher. i wasn't really cussing her, all i said was "F* this class" then i slammed the door and walked out. I was pissed. No one learned in that class. She was suppose to be teaching spanish 1, but we knew so little that our spanish 2 teacher is having to teach us spanish 1 instead.

? community service and fines; how does a school have the authority to do that? private school? cops get called?

Side: yes they do go overboard

Some times it does seem as if they are giving harsh punishments, but if you just follow the rules, then you will have no problem.

Side: no they dont

Not really because they are doing all it takes to keep the school in order and people that still in school should just do what they say because you are there for your education not the argue with the administration.

Exactly. Education is the main intent of school. If a teacher needs to get mad at a student because his/her hat could potentially be distracting, then this is completely necessary to accomplish the purpose of school. While some student's could handle this type of freedom, others are not so apt to, and an equal opportunity should be given at school.
