The Unabomber who killed three people and injured 23 others through a series of bombing attacks made through 1978 and 1995. He did not employ firearms to kill these people, he used homemade bombs.
Gun regulation is not the answer to stopping mass shootings. Regulating guns will help lower the chance of violent crimes but in the end people who want to kill will find a way. For example Anders Behring Breivik the Norwegian man who killed 10 people using a fertilizer and fuel bomb before he went on his rampage a few days later. What this shows is that in the end people who wish to kill will find a way and even though banning firearms will hope lower the chance, in the end it is only a temporary answer to a larger problem.
Banning guns to the public would cause, those who follow the law to become more susceptible to crimes involving firearms such as robbery, sexual assault, and murder. According to a survey taken in 2005 67% of gun owner claim that they own a gun purely for self defense, taking these weapons away would them in harms way.
