2015 studies (such as „Trade-off between intensity and frequency of global tropical cyclones” published in „Nature Climate change”) show that, in fact, the number of hurricanes has decreased, as opposed to their intensity, which is the actual concern. Although alarming, the problems Tuvalu is facing will not lead to its sinking. That is because the situation does not rely solely on uncontrollable natural factors, but on man-made ones, such as massive sand excavation, which causes beach erosion. Therefore, the state’s leaders have the power to take further action in order to diminish the damage.
