No, the name should not be changed. As it has been mentioned, it will be costly and a hastle. Mr. Singley has served a good long fortysomething years and SHOULD recognized but not by naming The Academy after him. He should have a statue or another memorial after him not a school, at least not The Academy. I think that the reason they chose The Academy is because we are the best known school in Irving and the schoolboard thinks that it is the biggest honor for the man but honestly I dont think he deserves that much of an honor. The Academy will be standing years and years after he is gone and maybe after we, the students are gone. I think that by then, no one will remember who Jack Singley was and it really wont matter so "The Jack E. Singley Academy" wont be symbolic and meaningful in any way to the type of school that THE ACADEMY is. Mr. Singley should be recognized but not by naming him after a school that was born as "The Academy of Irving ISD," and that has earned its respected reputation this way all along. The school's education program will improve and the name of our school will be worth alot more some day as it is, not as The Jack E. Singley Academy, so lets just keep the name that the school was started with and see how successful it will become.
