In certain instances, the need to win has been overided by fair play and honesty displayed by atheles. Like for exampe the football game where a player collapsed while their tema was 1-0 up. In the rematch, their opponents allowed them to score a goal uncontested so they began the game with 1-0. This shows that in some games, the need to play fairly has triumped the need to win.
