Intellectual property law deals with the rules for securing and enforcing legal rights to inventions, designs, and artistic works. Just as the law protects ownership of personal property and real estate, so too does it protect the exclusive control of intangible assets. Intangible asset An intangible asset is an asset that lacks physical substance and usually is very hard to evaluate. It includes patents, copyrights, franchises, goodwill, trademarks, and trade names, and the general interpretation also includes software and other intangible computer based assets. Ideally, credit would be given where credit is due, and there would be no need for a law. Plus no one forms ideas in a vacuum, almost every new idea is based on someone else's "intellectual property". Exactly, bro. For me it is just a matter of practicality. You can't control the proliferation of ideas, which is what intellectual property laws essentially amount to assuming. It isn't the same as something physical like a car or a house that you can point to and say you own. Once information is out there, you can't control how it spreads, nor do I think you should even be allowed to. It doesn't matter if it is considered art (i.e. films, paintings, games etc...) because there is literally no point in creating new forms of information if nobody experiences them. True artists aren't in it for the money; they just want people to hear/see their shit. And they should be, because that's the entire point of art in the first place. Capitalism just hijacks everything and tries to make money from it. Side: Disagree
