Feds Target CA Pot Dispensaries: Good Idea vs. No

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Federal prosecutors have launched a crackdown on some pot dispensaries in California, warning the stores that they must shut down in 45 days or face criminal charges and confiscation of their property even if they are operating legally under the state's 15-year-old medical marijuana law.

Even though I'm okay with legalizing marijuana, the law should be the law and doesn't federal law triumph over state law? Too bad the feds aren't more worried about enforcing their laws on illegal immigration.

I understand your sentiments on Federal Law, but is it not unconstituional for Federal Law to trump State Law in issues that are not delegated to the Federal Government?

If so, it is more illegal for the Feds to tell California what to do when it comes to marijuana.

My point was merely that it seems rather hypocritical of the feds to go after states that they perceive to be violating their law about marijuana but then go after other states for simply trying to enforce fed law that they, themselves won't.

A law should never be respected just for being a law, a law should be respected for being right.

Wrong. If you don't think the law is right then try to get it changed... until you do, the law what it is.

I agree with you 100%. We just legalized marijuana in Arizona for medicinal reasons. I voted for it because I know the benefits it would have on people with diseases especially with cancer.

We have the toughest drugs enforcement laws in the country. You get stopped with pot your screwed. The police IMO should spend less time on this issue and rounding up abusers and spend more time hauling illegals back to the border. We don't have enough police or border patrol to do that however. And we certainly don't have enough to do both and do them well.

IMO pot should be legalized period. Although I feel has very negative affects on those using it...so do cigarettes. The crack down should be alcohol...more die on our streets from DUI drives than pot. You get a DUI in Arizona...and its 22 days minimum at tent city first offense I believe.

The law is the law, but sometimes I simply can't stand it. Outlawed marijuana is like outlawed icecream. If you really think about it, it's complete poppycock. The least the feds could do is let the states off the hook in cases like these specially...

Okay, I don't necessarily disagree, but what about when the opposite is happening? ..when the feds won't enforce their own laws so the states try to... like illegal immigration?

Honestly, my thoughts on illegal immigration are probably inflammatory to most people.

So, the fed's actions may be unnecessary, but the parallels between ice cream and marijuana are pretty vague.

Oh well. Icecream and other nutrition-free foods may be the next things criminalized anyway.

I don't know if I understand the point of your disagreement. It's not very apparent.

but the parallels between ice cream and marijuana are pretty vague.

Are you saying that Mary Jane and ice cream are nothing alike? Well they are nothing alike, except in my example. Cannabis and ice cream are similar the fact that they are both equally unhealthy and psychologically addicting.

But you've eaten ice-cream or some other treat, yes? They are not physically addicting. They are not like cigarettes. And they do not kill you like how cigarettes do, because they do not cause you to want them all the time unless you yourself develop an emotional problem.

Just like you won't get really unhealthy from eating a little ice cream once or twice a day, you won't get extremely unhealthy from smoking a little blunt once or twice a day.

And nothing but yourself will cause you to consume either of these things in a great quantity. Once again, ice cream is nothing like tobacco. Neither is grass.

Legalize all drugs.

Prohibition causes organized crime.

Addiction is a public health issue and not a criminal issue.

Side: No

In enforcing thier law, they are breaking their own law. Because that law is under state law and not their law. Ultimately, state law trumps fed law, so Calli should lay down the law and tell fed law to suck it... that is to say the state law. You dig?
