GM Foods: Helpful or Harmful

Are genetically modified foods helping or harming us?

How exactly could they be harmful?

A future scenario that might not even happen, but still. We find a planet with conditions and life that can sustain us. The plants, animals, etc. are compatible with our metabolism - we can eat them. But there is one thing, they are genetically not something we have eaten before.

My point, what difference does it make if the food is modified or something like I explained?

The long term effects of these foods are still undetermined yet they call it safe. They don't even know what it does to you!! (or at least they claim they don't)

Besides, it's completely unnatural. They are inserting edible vaccines into banana. (I call them pharminanas) That's not right.

I can't agree with an argument on whether something is natural or not. Most of the fruit and vegetables that we eat daily has been created or modified by humans.

Carrots aren't long pointy orange things, they're gnarly and hairy. Bananas are tiny naturally. If you can find one item of fruit or veg that was the same in the wild as it was in a supermarket, I'd be impressed.

It's all unnatural - GM is just another way of achieving the same result, but quicker.

While being produced by a corrupt company like Monsanto, GM foods are VERY harmful.

They MUST be grown in sealed off green houses, perhaps vertical farming implements in order to prevent cross contamination.

It's imperative that we can develop foods that can grow well in dry, arid conditions like Africa or even Mars.

Patenting a lifeform, even unnatural is wrong, I feel, but I don't think that genetically modifying something is wrong.

It's like what Mewtwo on pokemon said. "The circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are."

First of all GM means Genetically modified and most of the GM foods come form the private sector. EX: Monsanto Company

Genetically modified food products share the same DNA structure, and this makes the entire food system much more susceptible to diseases. Furthermore, the GM foods are designed to be paired with specific pesticides and so where there is one you can assume the other (this is how major agricultural operations function now) and there is documented evidence demonstrating that those chemicals have a negative effect on human health. Finally, GM foods corner the agricultural market and force out smaller businesses which effectively establishes a monopoly on our food supply.
