The concept of a 'pet store' is, in itself, cruelty. To breed animals for our own purposes and to sell them like property is blatantly ignoring their rights.

Check out PetFinder.com for any animal you're looking for; you can adopt anything from reptiles to horses to pigs to ferrets to dogs to anything else you could possibly want.

Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die!

But shelter animals are so dirty and infected with shit.

WHY NOT GET A CUTE LITTLE PUGGY WUGGY THAT'S ONLY A MONTH OLD!!!!

aaaawwww.

in all seriousness though, i actually agree with you in some sense. I got my dog (a pug) from an animal shelter. I just don't have a problem with people buying pure breeds and shit like that. Free Country (America, at least).

Yes, but breeding is directly causing the deaths of perfectly adoptable and loving animals. Although I'm young and this may very well change, at present, I don't intend to have a biological child, either; rather, I intend to adopt one or more of the millions of children who don't have a home. However, I don't judge any mother who chooses to bear a child (except for maybe the woman who had octuplets). But to buy/breed non-humans is completely unnecessary.

There are 2 types of pet stores:

there are ones that mass produce animals to sell like petco. these animals die very soon and often have health problems.

there are also ones that take care of their animals very well. these animals are often very healthy and unique. they cost more but are worth it.

PETCO AND PETSMART SHOULD BE BANNED!

Side: yes

For anything outside of exotic animals, yes, they should be banned. There a plenty of dogs and cats out there just aching for a good home. Take a look at your nearest shelter and find a pet to love. Pet shops are cruel to animals like dogs and cats. They have no freedom and re crated in very small cages. There are also pleanty of breeders around if you want a pure-bred dog or cat. They are well taken care of and loving too. There's simply no need for pet stores selling domesticated animals.

some even are driven to madness because of the confined spaces and spend their days chasing their tails around. And then they are transported to a glass cage where they are taunted and teased by children or passer-byes.

Petshops are a risk to publics health. According to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland several diseases can start in pet shops or pet farms such as QFever, Lyssavirus, Hylatid etc.

Pet shops are expensive and charge double or triple the price for a dog. How do you know the dog is what breed they say it is? Very often dog breeds on the signs are incorrect however the pet shop owners do not care. Also some petshops say that dogs and cats have got all their immunisations but when you get home you find that the dog has not been desexed or microchipped.

A pet shop puppy lives a fairly tortured life. They start of in a puppy farm where living conditions are disgusting. Cages are not cleaned properly and the animals are dirty and smelly; some even are driven to madness becasue of the confined spaces and spend their days chasing their tails around. And then they are transported to a glass cage where they are taunted and teased by children or passer-bys.

Overall a pet shop is a cruel place and we'd be better off without them society wise as they charge too much and individual wise because of the risks they pose to our health.

Pet stores sell things like lizards and snakes and birds, that you can very rarely adopt from the pound. Bunnies and parakeets and dogs and cats, however, are easily found at the pound. So only rare and feeder animals should be sold at pet stores, so that people will be more open to adopting, if they won't pay breeder prices.

If you need a dog of a certain breed, you can always use a rescue. It's super easy to find the dog of your dreams with petfinder.com.

If the pet stores are worried about lost revenue more than the health of the pet population, then they're not very good pet stores.

Petco, for example, doesn't sell cats and dogs from breeders. They allow the local animal shelters to place cats and puppies in the store. They do sell parakeets though, and I'm not sure where they get those.

Why ban pet shops isnt there the quote "a mans best friend" really i understand the pound but i come from a family where i am growing up with more then 42 pets and no i dont live on a farm im just a person who lives in a town like everyone else/suberb

Pounds are great if you know what your looking for but really who whants a pet who has a diesese and it dies acoiuple of weeks later or you find out the diesese is really bad and you end up paying thousands of dallars to fix the dieses then actully just having a pet for tons of years could you imagine turning around to your kids and saying the animal you have loved for so long is now dead because of so and so diesese thats like taking away there favorite toy and smashing it straight in front of them

they would be heart broken but if you can have a pet for there life until they grow up and understand they will be happy...

everyone loves pets and to honestly tell you i know people like so called "greenies"

want most animals to be free but do they know what the animal wants does the animal really want to be free and nothing to love and care for them

pretend your an animal for a second would you like to have fun fetching balls playing with people and getting patted or would you prefer to eat out of a bin and live like an actual slob no i wouldnt think so

animals should be treated the way they are

I think no to torchering animals but yes to having them as pets

if you ban pet shops you might as well ban food ban beds ban houses and ban everything else thats in the damm world

i got one thing to say "PETS ARE FAMILY"

my pets get sad when im hurt...

my dog for instance willl come up and cheer me up when im down by trying to stick her head under my arm

i like pets but some pets arnt treated the right way for instance some cats

i honestly dont like how they just walk around do what they want kill what they want and ive actully had a pet of mine killed by a cat im not saying some pets are bad just i think they need control sometime

for instance you know blind people they need the guide dogs to help them walk around what are you going to do take the dogs and tell them to shove it if you take 1 dog then really your saying no to all dogs

dont ban pet shops this will really make me and alot more people sad this isnt what the world is for i thought the quote "enjoy your life you only got one"

is what its for and what about animals they follow the same quote and if they enjoy livcing with humans then thats what they should do my dog runs to me are you saying that because my dog is happy it should be taken away because i bought it from a pet shop

no i didnt think so

Thankyou!

Pet Shops Should Not Be Banned, Pets give little kids happiness and responsibility, they won't clean a room but they will feed a dog. This responsibility will help them as they grow up, cleaning they're own rooms etc. With pets it not only makes kids happy but it helps them become a better person. If Society bans pet shops kids will not grow responsible and be taught the hard way. Other ways of helping young kids grow is that if a pet passes away it will help them cope with loss. Pets also help the elderly with conditions, they need dogs if they are blind or if they need company. Banning pet shops will make alot of people lose jobs and more people on the street, the loss of jobs will probably make inflation and I dont think anyone wants that. Cats are smart and loyal. Yes dogs, cats, birds etc. are expensive, but would you want your kid growing up not knowing what to do when they lose a family member or a friend and it will bring your children and the whole family happiness. Pets are like family to many people, as I stated earlier the loss of a pet is sad for a child. My cat comes up to me when i'm sad and will sit in my lap and let me tickle its stomach etc. this cheers you up! If people say selling pets is bad and that pet stores are are bad, isn't it good that they're going to good homes? where people will love them and care for them, imagine the world without pet shops, feral cats and wild dogs will be everywhere and there will not be enough local breeders to sell pets to everyone. Anyway I am going to end it here.

People like looking at doggies in the window, so, pet shops should not be banned.
