What Has CD Come Down To When...

The Person Who Creates IS The Culprit?

Today I came in to find a debate entitled "What to do with Time Wasting Debates?" His remedy is "Police Thyself" and that would be great if he were the first one to recognize HIS debates are mostly a complete waste of time! His replies to other debates, including his own, run a close second to that...a complete waste of time to read! So, what is to be done?

Look, here's how I deal with Joe, and his ilk. Ignore them. When you see something by Joe pretend it was never posted. When you see a debate posted by him overlook it. It's that simple. I don't see what the big deal is.

The best solution to a prank caller is to stop answering the phone. If you lash out at them and try to force them into "behaving like rational people" you will just get frustrated.

I know you can do it.

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

Without a doubt! The thing is I'm not trying to force him or anyone into a behavior change. I do not believe it can be done in this case. I do not get in on his debates nor is he allowed to post on mine and I'm fine with that. But that isn't the point of this debate J. I'm wondering why and how CD puts up with this while trying to make themselves a viable site and have a reputable name.

Wow, nicely said...

Hmmm...Weird how no one on here would ever agree to do something so rational...

Wow, what would ever make you think they wouldn't?

Joe fishes with a net. Sometimes he gets a marlin, usually it's old shoes and seeweed.

I have also seen him pull up a lobster and, on occasion, a tire.

Side: Joe Goes Fishing

Hi Loud...But tell me this. Of what worth is one lobster every hundred times he sets his trap? That's 99 old tires and one worthwhile thing. At that point I'd find another place to set traps that might be a bit more advantageous to the task.

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

This may sound like payback or sour grapes to some but this is the main reason why I have taken him from Ally to Enemy! So it's not that...it as real as real can be. I mean what do you say to someone who answers a debate about the best part of Thanksgiving Dinner, food wise, is "The Nuts!" I think he means to be funny but he's not most of the time. I've seen him ruin some serious debates with one of his moronic answers. How he even summons up the audacity to create this particular debate is absolutely mind boggling!

I have been thinking and re-thinking leaving this site because of him and I'm not exactly clear as yet to what I am going to do but one thing is certain...between him and the Pre-K debates, replies and lashing out, I'm just about done. If anyone doubts who it is I'm talking about, it's Joe Calvary, the point grabber and now the one who disguises himself as "CreateDebate" to tell everyone what's on his little mind besides down voting or up voting you. It's becoming ridiculous.

I see your dilemma Kukla...For some odd reason I seem to sense a deja vu event occurring here. ;D

Well, I really have no right offering my advice, but hey, why not?

I have seen so many of Joe's debates pass through here. Some have an underlying meaning, others, well..no. Either way Joe is what I would consider a character. He is one with an occasional joke, and a rare point. Nevertheless, I find Joe amusing. Many times before I have been so wound up in a debate, then I scroll down to read some twisted joke that only Joe could write.

On the other hand, his stereotypical comments have more than doubled hear of late. Plus, he doesn't take into consideration who just he is offending. So, in a jumbled conclusion, I will say this. There are pros and cons to Joe, and I'm not sure if we should live with the quirks or try to ignore him as a whole. Hmmm. I guess this argument didn't really have a point. Interesting.

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

I was really hoping it was not only my dilemma. I've heard so many comments from people about him. Some even yell at him but it does no good. He's back to his old tricks in seconds on another debate. You have every right to post here since you're a member...not advice particularly, but in the form of an opinion based on the debate topic itself. You've brought up a few questions, some answers, and that's a good thing.

Yes, there are pros and cons to Joe just as there are with everyone else in life. The problem comes when it's entirely disruptive and does not serve the purpose of the site or its members. In all honesty I used to find him amusing at times as well but I don't find him amusing at all when he wrecks a debate with his nonsense and puts up debates that even a 10 year old would be too embarrassed to write. He reminds me of a kid in a classroom who does nothing but taunt the teacher and students every day to such a degree that learning is virtually impossible.

The irony of it certainly didn't escape me.

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

I knew it wouldn't xaeon, but what's to be done, if anything? Not everyone puts up Think Tank debates but gosh, this just seems like an in-your-face, I dare you to say something debate. Well it's been said. I wish he would stop this nonsense and be serious. No one minds a good laugh once in a while but this is getting to the point of absurdity.

I know what you mean about the moronic answers on some serious debates. Maybe we can ban him from our debates. That should slow him down.

Why don't you get a petition going? What percentage of the members do you think we need to kick him off this site?

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

Hi Headless...I think banning him from our debates is a good thing and would slow him down to quite a degree...one would hope. I'm not certain about kicking him off the site, however, I've certainly given him enough suggestions so he could think about things he's doing. That hasn't worked for me. I can ask what the powers that be think about this and get their opinion but I think I already know the answer! Perhaps if more people told him straight out what they think, that would help...I really don't know. We can try.

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

I just saw Joe's newest debate; "Can we come to some kind of compromise?" It seems someone or several people have already written in about him and have started a petition of some sort by alerting them to what Joe does. I also weighed in on it right there so they could include me as one of the people who want him gone and I told them why. Perhaps that's what people should do but that for each of us to decide for ourselves.

If matters like these are of actual importance to you, I would recommend change in your life.

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM
1 point

Oh my! Would you recommend that? Would you really? Can you come down off your ski slope long enough to truly understand what this debate is about or is that just too much of an altitude/pressurization problem for you?

OK...it's too much for you! I'll try and give you a short but sweet analogy. If your computer was running slower and slower on a daily basis it would most likely be a problem of not cleaning it properly. In order to bring it up to speed and operate the way it should, you'd take steps to clean it up wouldn't you? Answer is YES! That's the issue here! We're trying to figure out the best way to clean up this site so it operates the way it was designed to!

Now, since these matters seem to be of little or no importance to you, why don't you go and commune with your plentiful pines and change your life...go make some angels in the snow, it's fun!

Considering the fact that I now have to go and commune with my plentiful pines, change my life and make some angels in the snow, I won't elaborate on or defend my stance any further.

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

I am going to end this debate tonight since most people have probably seen it and those who wished to post did. I have nothing further to add and I think you guys said it best. IGNORE HIM! Don't allow him in on any of my debates and ignore his. CD is more aware than I ever thought they were about this problem which I didn't see until the other night. So, I'll let them handle it and see what the outcome is. Well noted are those who absented themselves from this debate or concern, which it is.

Joe can be a very good debater IF he wants to be but he needs to think about what people are telling him again and again. By his own hand on a recent debate, he just wants to have fun here. I think we would all like to have fun and we do, simply by debating an issue and someone making a funny statement now and again which, if appropriate, makes us all laugh.

Once again, I don't give a hang about the points unless someone is getting hit for no reason. I actually wish they had none at all. There are many ways a debate can be decided good or bad or in-between rather than up and down votes which are sometimes quite arbitrary.

Thanks to all who participated in this one!

I did my part to try and get rid of him when I asked for his resignation in my last debate and some of you here defended him.

Kuklapolitan has said that all he is interested in is points. If that is true then lets try what pvtNobody suggests. Lets ignore him or find a way to take away his points. Although I would be remiss if I didn't point out that Kuklapolitan has a lot to gain as she would become the new point leader.

Now, I know that at times Joe can be ..er...bothersome.

However, he, on occasion ;), has some thought-provoking questions, and when really taking perspective on a question, gives great answers. I know several of you think the pros outweigh the cons, but you can't knock out everyone who angers you with some offensive comments. This is a debate site people...It is bound to get personal at one time or another.

I guess my issue with your comment here is that I have seen from experience that is not the answer to your problems. Completely cutting him off, and stripping him of his points won't help the situation. I have been in Joe's shoes..haha...I must be empathetic here...I say we give him a chance, and possibly if he has an introspective moment he can cut back on the comments out of consideration.

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

I need to oppose you on this response because that has nothing to do with Joe or this debate. His problem, for the most part are not offensive comments like the pyg. Somehow you're lumping this in with your own problem when you came here and that has nothing to do with this. You've not been in his shoes at all...not ever. Do me a favor and read the title and description again. That's what this is about...nothing else.

I don't know if I would have put this debate up if Joe hadn't put up his about wasted debates! What hubris!

Side: Someone should POLICE HIM

I defended him as well and very heavily. Bettyjoe, I could give a hangnail about his points! That's not what I'm all about. You cannot take away his points, that wouldn't be fair as it stands now. But the one thing you can do is not allow him to participate in your debates nor you his if you feel as I do.

I'd like to know what I have to gain by being the point leader? Do you think I care about that at all? I just happen to have more time and more interest than others because I'm disabled and home 24/7. I don't have much else to do except play Mobsters on another site and walk my dog. You've not seen me over-answer on debates or make a comment every time someone else makes one. I'm not here for the comedy show and since you really don't know me as others do, that was a tasteless remark.

The remark is far from tasteless when you consider the history that led up to the remark. You went after Repubgal for allegedly down voting you and you have voiced your desire to have people leave an explanation for the down vote. Those are not the actions of someone who doesn't care about points.
