What is our most important job as Christians
As a Christian, is it more important to spread the word of our Lord Jesus Christ or to avoid sin and the devil's temptations.
If you are not Christian and leave an answer like god doesn't exist anyway expect it to be deleted.

Where is the option to help and love others? This is why I hate religion. You are driven by fear (avoiding sin so you don't go to hell) or by insecurity (spread the word of Jesus which is code for telling others how evil they are and how pious you are) or the inability to handle your own problems (people who believe in miracles or God's favor or other magic) or some other stupid emotion when Jesus spends most of his time telling us to take care of each other. You pick out the parts of the Bible that confirm your previously held beliefs and make you feel better about yourselves. Complete hypocrites Side: Spread the word of Jesus

Have you thought of looking at it like a Christian would. A man died on a cross so we could be washed of sin. That's what made me think of these options. Should we follow his word for making such a sacrifice. Or do we not give in to sin since we were given a second chance by Jesus. I'm sorry I thought about the man who died for us all instead of the people around me when I made the options. Think about it like a Christian would. We are avoiding sin as much as we can because it is what god wants. We don't spread the word of Jesus because we want to feel like a better person. We do it because people like you don't believe him are breaking his word and we are warning you. Also, we ask from god because he knows what's best, so we let him control the situation knowing what should be done is being done. Side: Avoid sin

The constitution in my country allows me to share my opinions, so it is my right to share what I think. Further more, I never meant to make this about gay rights - I just said that christians seem to shun people with lack of faith and homosexuals. I am surprised you think I tried to make this into a gay rights discussion with that. It just shows how close-minded you are. Side: Spread the word of Jesus

Let me preface this by saying that although I'm an atheist, I was Lutheran until a couple years ago. Also, I don't claim to be a theologian, so I trust that someone will correct me if I'm mistaken. I think given this dichotomy, avoiding sin has to be the number one priority of Christians. To avoid sin is the same as following the tenets of Christianity, and to be a Christian is to adhere to its teachings. Thus, it stands to reason that the most important job for a Christian is to be a Christian. Nowhere in the ten commandments (or the 613 mitzvot for that matter) does it say, "Thou shalt force these teachings upon others." In fact, according to the book of Matthew, Jesus says the greatest commandment is: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (22:37). That's straight from the horse's mouth, as it were. Not only that, but God himself says he doesn't want anything to do with blasphemers anyway: "anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him" (Leviticus 24:16). Side: Avoid sin

If we sin ourselves, what makes us think we deserve the right to 'spread the word of Jesus'? We may not be perfect, but I think God should be found by oneself, not forced upon another and I wouldn't listen to someone who smokes to tell me to stop smoking (if I did smoke). Side: Avoid sin
