Why would someone choose to be gay?

Add New Argument

The same reason why does someone choose between ethnicity. It is human action, it is unpredictable.

Even if it were possible, I doubt anyone would choose such a fate. A life of ridicule, embarrassment and ostracism would await said person. So unfortunate, that such hate can be spouted about something completely natural.

I can only think of one thing; curiosity? In a place where homosexuality is acceptable, natural intrigue during sexual maturity would surely lead some to choose homosexuality for "shits and giggles", I believe the phrase is.

Of course, homosexuality is taboo in many places in the world. Even where I live, in the midlands of Britain, homosexuality is generally held in contempt. I'm sure there are plenty who have toyed with the idea of homosexuality, yet never capitalised on it.

For all those wondering, I don't think that people can choose, I'm simply looking to see if anyone who does believe it can give an adequate reason. If they can't, then it's only logical that people don't choose to be gay. And if people don't choose, then any form of discrimination against them is morally wrong.

I know it is possible because there have already been people who were able to change their orientation.

That doesn't prove that it's choice.

My personality changes over time, my tastes change over time, my opinions change over time. That doesn't mean I chose to change them, it's just who I am. People do not choose their sexuality.

So, according to you, an abstinent Nun has the "abstinent Nun" trait embedded into her dna? Abstinence is sexuality (or lack there of), just like hetero and homo. So, are we born psychologically abstinent? Or are our ACTIONS a product of our socialization?

At some point in time we need to face reality, and stop trying to blame unknown psychological/biological factors on EVERYTHING. I am still waiting to see evidence of this "gay gene". And I am sure that most pharmaceutical companies are waiting as well, so that they can create a pill to cure it.

So even if you wanted to, you'd be unable to be abstinent? Are you destined to have sex? And anyway, sex ≠ sexuality.

There does not have to be a gay gene for their to be gay people who do not choose to be gay. Personality, and sexuality, in my opinion, stem from both genetics, and from experience. Both genes, and how you're raised. Are identical twins always the same, either in terms of personality, or sexuality?

They don't. I didn't .

I never remembered deciding I'm go to feel attracted to my own gender when I hit puberty. It just happened,

I Don't know whether it's influenced environmntally or genetically, all I know is I didn't even think about my orientation , it didn't seem weird to me even though people bullied me. I felt normal

No one chooses to be Gay just like no one chooses to be Straight.

it's up to them wether they want to be gay that is how they want to live some very famous people are gay so dont diss people's opinions.

It is as racist as calling a black man names as to make fun of a gay man.

If i wanted to be a lezbian my mum would support me all the way and would respect my choices like wise you should respect their choices if your friend or sombody you know decides to be gay.

research has shown that sexual re-orientation is possible, so no one really chooses to be gay the only way someone chooses to be gay is if they don't do whatever they are supposed to do to change sexual re-orientation most don't know it because to many people say it is impossible to change. http://www.undergroundrainbow.com/can-gays-and-lesbians-become-h/
