Teachers should either wear suits or uniforms. Teachers have a job just like other people the prime minister who wears a suit or a banker. Even people who do less tiring jobs such as working in Tesco wear a uniform, so why must teachers wear whatever they please? I am aware that what they wear must be smart but most do not, I usually notice mostly PE teachers or cover teachers wearing the least casual clothes; this is not a stereotype, it is an observation. Sometimes pupils also look up to their teachers and when teachers are going to work in sunglasses, a cap and shorts I do not think this quite matches up to expectations for a role model when it comes to work. Teachers not wearing a uniform has a negative effect on the community of learning children. Surely nobody wants their child to grow up to become a person who believes it is perfectly suitable to go to a job interview in jeans and a t-shirt. Side: yes
I'm commenting simply because I find this topic interesting, and I believe some sort of uniformity among teachers and or students could impact the learning enviroment. Simply put, growing up I was taught or naturally assumed a person in uniform or a suit was someone of importance, someone you may look up to, and present a form of professionalism... also, when I was in high school I recall some female teachers who dressed somewhat provocative and it distracted some students (me included)... among other reasons. At first thought, I figured yes, because it would be a symbol of authority for students to look up to... but then I thought a second thought. If teachers wore uniforms and students didn't, rapport would be lost. This is crucial in order for teachers to guide many students through the learning process. Some students depend on this kind of a connection to feel comfortable with their teacher, comfortable enough to lower their defenses and actually be receptive to what the teacher is attempting to teach them. If teachers were to wear uniforms, then students should have to also. To keep everyone on the same page, although that would really bother many students... because free dress gives students a chance to express themselves, and that's just as important to them as it would be to the teachers.
