Though it may be inhumane, over half a million lives were saved. To add to this, it is well documented in History that the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had pamphlets dropped on them to clearly warn them of the iminent danger, over 1 week in advance of the dropping of the bomb. If the US had not have dropped the A-Bomb, the war may have lasted many more years, and the Cold War may have became WW3. Though unlikely, it was a completely understandable reason at the time, as the USSR were planning to invade both China and Eastern Europe.
I think the dropping of the both bombs were the only way to convince Japan to surrender, and that they were eventually going to lose the war. Once the first bomb was dropped, Japan had a choice to surrender. Still, they believed they were the dominant power. To prove the point that they still could dominate the Japanese Empire, the USA dropped the second bomb. This eventually led to the Japanese Surrender.
Another reason is that throughout the war, Japan constantly made inhumane acts of extreme violence and cold blood, like the Rape of Nanking. They also thought they were the dominant superpower, and could invade, take-over and destroy other countries. On top of this, they refused a peaceful surrender from the USA, even though they were losing the war. In accepting surrender, they could have easily averted the loss of many of their civilians, industry and agriculture in the Atomic blasts. Therefore, they paid the full price. I REST MY CASE!
