Darwinism is Darwin's theory that all animals evolved over time and that the animals with the best traits will survive and reproduce. Social Darwinism is the belief of survival of the fittest but for humans. The two beliefs are similar because they both believe that who ever has the best traits will survive and thrive and that the others who don't do as good will not do as good. They are different because one has to do with humans and how some are more successful and the other has to do with how certain species survive and reproduce.
I agree that Darwin's concepts contributed to eugenics because Darwin believed that animals changed or evolved over time. This could have contributed to eugenics because eugenics is when an animals trait is impacted or changed because of the environment. The fact that Darwin thought that animals slowly changed over time could have got scientists thinking about epigenetics.
During this time there was still slavery in the U.S.A. and there was still a lot of racism in Europe. These concepts had influences on Darwin's work because people then thought that the slaves were like animals and then they treated them like animals. Even Darwin didn't think highly of slaves. One of the science influences to Darwin was Charles Lyell's book the Principals of Geology. This promoted Darwin to ask about living things change over time. He was also influenced by Thomas Malthus. Darwin applied his observations of Malthus to animals. Darwin also influenced future other scientists and people like Hitler.
