No, Candy’s dog should not have been killed because the reason does not justify the death of an innocent living creature. According to Carlson, Candy should kill his dog because “Slim’s bitch got a litter right now” (Steinbeck 45). Carlson is suggesting that Candy can replace his old dog with a new dog. However, love cannot be replaced. Love is an emotion that takes time to grow.
