This event saved more destruction to the planet than if Japan and USSR continued in the war. USSR would have moved into eastern Europe and Asia and there would have been more destruction if Japan wasn't stopped and USSR wasn't warned not to invade.
No bomb= longer war. End of story. Who knows what the Japanese would have continued to if the bomb wasn't dropped. 500 000 lives were saved by dropping the bombs and who knows how many lives would be lost if the Japanese continued to take over countries and slaughter whole armies.
