Personally I believe he is good in the ruthless and cold method of doing whatever it takes and the end justifies the means but I can see why some believe he's evil.
Remember that he was the first Darkspawn to regain humanity and tried to helps his follow 'brothers' but his methods might not have been the best. Yes he did start the events of Origins but he was trying to stop the Blights once and for all so once again I think he's good.
However Dragon Age is full of grey characters and I feel that the Architect is definitely a grey character who leans to the good side.
